The Ministry of Justice of Montenegro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (NPM) to improve cooperation and protect the rights of detained individuals.
Podgorica - The Ministry of Justice announced that it will implement more efficient procedures based on recommendations from the NPM and exchange information more quickly to protect the rights of detained individuals. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Minister of Justice Bojan Božović and Ombudsman Siniša Bjeković. The Memorandum represents an additional step towards improving cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the NPM. The agreement allows the NPM to provide recommendations, opinions, initiatives, and suggestions arising from its activities in areas where detained individuals are present. The Ministry will consider these recommendations without delay and will inform the NPM of any actions taken or planned within the shortest possible timeframe. The Memorandum also provides for direct communication between institutions through the appointment of contact persons, which will further enhance the efficiency of cooperation and enable timely response to significant human rights issues faced by detained individuals and prisoners.
